A painting of a nude woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and black eyelashes, standing next to a red and black traditional Japanese Hannya mask with horns and sharp teeth.

Faye Haun

I have been painting for more than twenty years, working primarily in oils and exploring lived experience through both real and surreal imagery. My practice is rooted in an interest in the emotional, sensory, and social realities that shape how we experience the world.

I am drawn to questions of identity, perception, power, and the structures that influence individual experience, particularly through the lens of women’s lives. I use painting to explore what exists beneath the immediately visible and to give form to experiences that can be difficult to articulate.

I have also walked through creating landscapes, another primal nonverbal experience that withstands the test of life experiences. I have always admired its stoic silence and indifference to our suffering.

I grew up in Long Beach, California, spending summers in Lake Arrowhead, Michigan, and California beaches. I curated my early passion for art at Idyllwild for the Arts, Interlochen for the Arts, and UCLA summer art programs.

I got my undergraduate degree from Boston University, majoring in Advertising and Business Administration, which supported my ongoing professional career in advertising and marketing.

My professional career began in Las Vegas, Nevada, where my career focused on advertising for the travel, tourism, entertainment and hospitality industries. I also explored stunning desert landscapes, ancient rock formations and nearby national parks.

Currently based in the Sacramento area of California, I continue to develop an evolving body of work that explores the space between what is seen and what is felt. I have had a wonderful experience getting involved in local art shows, galleries, and connecting with local artists in the community.
